Mourning played the majority of his 15-year NBA career together with the Miami Heat. Mourning’s youth started to take a negative turn in age 10 when his parents divorced and his house situation deteriorated to the stage where he was put in foster care, where he resided until he went to school. Beneath the tutelage of renowned trainer John Thomson, Mourning prospered leading the country in blocked shots in his freshman effort and being named an All American in his this past year at school.

His success in school led to him being chosen together with the 2nd overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft – behind Shaquille O’Neal – by the Charlotte Hornets. His rookie effort was extraordinary as he averaged 21 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.47 blocks a match, finishing second in Rookie of the Year voting behind only O’Neal.

Mourning played 7 seasons with all the Heat initially before he was diagnosed using a kidney disease that curtailed his playing time before he signed together with the New Jersey Nets into a four year deal, although he’d retire shortly later due to kidney complications. After acquiring a kidney transplant in 2003, mourning returned to the NBA the following year using the Nets but wasn’t used considerably. Finally, he found his way back to Miami in 2005 and consented to back up O’Neal on a team that has been a title challenger. Mourning retired after the 2007-2008 year. Mourning is married to Tracy Mourning as well as the couple has three kids. Mourning now works for the Miami Heat organization.
