Celia Cruz Net Worth: Celia Cruz was a Cuban-American salsa vocalist/performer who had a net worth of $1 million. Considered among the most famous salsa artists of the 20th century, Cruz earned twenty three gold albums and was the recipient of the National Medal of Arts. She was globally famous as the Queen of Salsa, La Guarachera de Cuba along with The Queen of Latin Music. Celia Cruz spent much of her profession in the U.S. as well as several Latin American nations. Growing up in Cuba’s varied 1930s musical landscape, Cruz listened to various musicians who affected her adult career, including Fernando Collazo, Abelardo Barroso, Pablo Quevedo and Arsenio Rodrguez. Despite her mother’s resistance, as a kid Cruz learned santera tunes from her neighbor who practiced santera.
Celia Cruz afterwards studied the words to Yoruba tunes with co-worker Mercedita Valdes (an Akpwon santeria vocalist from Cuba) and recorded several religious songs. Cruz started singing in Havana’s radio station Radio Garcia Serra’s popular Hora del T day-to-day program, where she sang the tango nostalgias and won first place. She regularly won competitions, which afforded new opportunities to take part in more competitions. Her first records were in 1948 in Venezuela. On July 16, 2003, Cruz died of brain cancer at her house in Fort Lee, New Jersey in the age of 77. The Cruz postage was one of several five stamps honoring Latin music greats, which contained Selena, Tito Puente, Carmen Miranda and Carlos Gardel.
