Hector Lavoe Net Worth: El Cantante De Los Cantantes, as he’s affectionately known, came to The Big Apple in the age of 17 together with the dream of making it huge. Without formal musical training, he captured the ears of Johnny Pacheco. When Pacheco started recruiting musicians and vocalists for his new Fania label, he introduced Lavoe into a young trombonist who had been in need of a vocalist—Willie Colon. Colon was in the procedure for record with Al Santiago’s Alegre label when Pacheco saw the possibility of Colon and contained him on his roll at the same time. Lavoe and Colon collaborated for eight years and on many records.
Lavoe’s life was sadly marred with several psychological disasters including the passing of his mom when he was just four years of age, the passing of his brother in an auto crash, the unintended death of his son—who was just 17 years old—the murder of his mother in law, followed by the passing of his dad. The weight of the disasters along with alcohol and drug dependence took their cost. In 1988, Hector jumped from the window of a hotel room in Puerto Rico. Some believed it was a suicide attempt, others said he was afraid of his wife following the event (fueling rumors that he was shoved), still others believed habit was eventually becoming the top of him. Apparently, individuals close to him said that Hector had found a vision of his son, appearing outside his window, requesting him to come. Hector lived the autumn, but was never exactly the same. He sometimes appeared in clubs and sang a tune or two, but his health continued to deteriorate until he eventually expired on June 29, 1993 in Manhattan, NYC, NY.
