Jessye Norman net worth: Jessye Norman is an American Grammy Award-winning opera vocalist that has a net worth of $3 million dollars. She was inducted in the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and comes from a household of musicians. She claims inspiration from performers like Marian Anderson and Leontyne Price. She attended Howard University on a full scholarship after performing in the Marian Anderson Vocal Contest at age sixteen. She graduated in 1967 using a diploma in music in the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. She received her Master’s Degree in 1968. She won the ARD International Music Competition in Munich a year after and debuted in the Deutsche Oper Berlin in Wagner’s Tannhauser. Norman now resides at a secluded and private estate in Croton on Hudson, Ny. She appeared and performed in the 2nd inauguration of President Bill Clinton in 1997. In 2003, a tuition-free artwork school, referred to as the Jessye Norman School of Arts, was started in Augusta, Georgia. She recently released her first memoir, Stand Up Direct and Sing!, on May 4, 2014 via Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. She’s played over 37 leading opera characters and has performed over forty oratorio and orchestral parts throughout her career. She’s over 36 honours and awards to her name.

3What I find today is that students, whether they are instrumentalists or singers, are so glued to the page, so glued to notes, they don't get that within all of that they need to make music.
4There is a lot of propaganda about opera singers not being able to act. That's not necessarily true and hasn't been true for a long time. And certainly, there are those instances when singers were told they need to fit into a certain size dress. Of course, women. Men? They just make the costumes bigger.
5[on what is on her mind whilst performing] I think about the words, I think about the characters. I think what a pleasure it is to sing some of the text that I have. I am so grateful to to be saying those words, they're so beautiful.
