John Fredriksen is a Norwegian-Cypriot petroleum and transportation magnate worth $12 billion which makes him the wealthiest man in Cyprus. Produced in Oslo, Norway, John Fredriksen started his professional career working for shipbrokers in Norway. In his late 20s, he left the firm and ventured out by himself. He first started trading oil in the 1960s in Beirut, he then went to purchase his first tankers in the 1970s. During the Iran-Iraq Wars in the 1980s, he was among the few petroleum shipping companies who continued to work in the area, despite the fact that it was very dangerous.
