He starred as Mike Bassett in the show Mike Bassett: Manager in 2005 and as Jim Royle to the TV series The Royle Family from 1998 to 2012. He’s won a British Comedy Award and National Television Award for The Royle Family. Tomlinson apparently contributed $1 million British Pounds to a children’s hospital in Liverpool.

1Was a member of right wing political party the National Front from the late 1960s to the mid 70s as he was opposed to immigration and supported Tory MP Enoch Powell's stance on the matter.
2Before becoming an actor, Ricky Tomlinson was a militant trade unionist. In 1973 he was imprisoned for 15 months for organising flying pickets as part of a building workers' strike.
