Robert Herjavec was born in Varazdin, Croatia on September 14, 1963. His father was imprisoned for speaking out against Yugoslavia’s communist government. The family was able to escape the country and emigrate to Halifax, Nova Scotia when Robert was eight years old. They moved on to Toronto and Robert graduated from New College at the University of Toronto with a degree in political science and English literature.
